What is acupuncture? How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture
is among the oldest healing practices in the world originating in and
practiced in China for thousands of years. It is a key component of
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) – a whole medical system also
involving herbal medicine, nutrition, exercise (qi gong, tai ji) and tui
na (Asian Bodywork) which simultaneously treats the symptoms as well as
the root of the disease or disorder. Acupuncture techniques include
needling and adjunct skills such as gua sha, cupping, electronic
stimulation, etc...
The theories and clinical approaches of
acupuncture are very different from Western Medicine. However, it has
been proven both clinically and scientifically that needling directly
stimulates the nervous system to improve neuromuscular, vascular and
organ/endocrine system function.
Chinese medicine explains this
via meridians or channels which connect different parts of the body.
Like the nervous system, meridians unify all parts of the body and move
the life energy qi and blood as well as connect the interior of the body
with the exterior. Disease results from the disruption or imbalance in
the qi flow of the meridians. Acupuncture uses hair-thin needles at
specific points along these meridians to remove blockages in the flow of
qi and restore and maintain health.
How do I choose an acupuncturist?
There
is difference about background, credentialing, philosophy between
practitioners. It is important to find an acupuncturist who meets your
need. Know your acupuncturist.
What can you treat with acupuncture?
ACI
Clinic provides 100% natual holist health solutions for many medical
conditions and health concerns. We view your body as a whole unit other
than treating one single disease. You may check our website to see what
conditions we treat. Also you always can consult our doctors and learn
how we take care of your whole life. In our clinic, we accept all
challenging cases.
How many treatments will I need?
In
general, the longer you have suffered from your condition the more
treatments you will require. An initial consultation is necessary to
evaluate your body condition. Our doctors individually design treatment
plans according to your body and needs.
Is acupuncture safe? Does it hurt?
Acupuncture
is one of the safest treatment options available today. In our clinic,
we use "Clean Needle Technique" which involves using a new set of
hair-thin, sterile, disposable, non-toxic needles taken from a sealed
package for each patient and swabbing the site of insertion with alcohol
before inserting the needles greatly reducing any risk of infection to
the patient.
Acupuncture is not painful; however, the insertion
of the hair-fine needles may create a qi sensation often described as a
feeling of heaviness or pressure. Some patients may experience stronger
qi sensations than others. Also, we offer "needleless" acupuncture
technique for patients who fear needles.
What should I do before, during and after acupuncture treatment?
It is advised not to receive acupuncture on an empty stomach, immediately after consuming a large meal, if very fatigued, or emotionally upset. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. During treatment it's best to relax and feel free to ask your practitioner any questions you may have. It is recommended to avoid heavy physical activity directly after receiving a treatment.
